The Chakatcha Dance Group is African Caribbean
philanthropic performing arts group founded in November 1991 - dubbed the Club Zouk
Dancers. The group specialises in a blend of traditional dances of Francophone Caribbean
and West African. Of Central East and South Africa, along with mixed grill Europe.
Performances- continuity of culture, are based on the numerous
variations of dance, music plus utilisation of specific songs from these regions. Each
choreography is considered with it's own distinct tradition, history and beliefs.
The name Chakatcha, being a Swahili word, moreover a
traditional Kenyan form of dancing, usually taught or performed in private by young women
during courtship, was adopted in 1995. Chakatcha dancing has it's own form of music,
(msomdo drumming) and men in general, are not ordinarily permitted to witness the
celebration and ceremony.
The group is popular for its programme of work, promoting
continuously, positive images of African and Caribbean cultures. Encouraging mutual
acquaintance for the appreciation of languages, enhancing social lifestyles, as well as
projecting cultural diversity and reciprocity.
Chakatcha " dancers of spirit " play an active role to the education
and cultural development of people endeavouring to promote, integrate and demonstrate art
and cultural growth around the world metropolis.
